Deep
Clay is an holistic approach developed by Michelle
Rhodes, psychotherapist and clay
artist . This approach attends to the
metaphors inherent in both studio work and inner process. The goal is
to
activate each person's innate ability to create her or his own personal
growth, healing, and artistic expression. In addition to clay work,
Michelle offers other art materials and
playful modalities in the main studio and adjacent cabin, including
creative work with sand and miniatures for all ages.
Current offerings include individual psychotherapy,
Dreamfigures (a
weekly women's clay
group), therapeutic art groups
for children and adolescents, and individualized instruction in
handbuilding, sculpture, and wheel thrown pottery. Groups
are small, usually having fewer than six participants. The
individualized approach can cater to the gifted child and meet a broad
range of special needs as well. (Please click on Offerings
for more detailed description)The Deep Clay studio is located on a country road near the Wallkill River, ten minutes from New Paltz and centrally located between Kingston, Newburgh, and Poughkeepsie. |
